NOrmally I won't provide you with examples, that will be part of your research. But because this is our first project I included a few INSPIRATION below. I will also be a bit more hands on and specific as we navigate this new class. Once we have our feet under us and you have earned your wings, self direction will be granted freely.

Picasso Portraits

WHY?
  • A Fun way to explore portraits
  • A look into an important artist in Art History
WHAT?
  • A Pencil Drawing in the style of Picasso
    • Drawings should have several shades of gray
    • Drawings should be detailed
    • Drawings should have some kind of background
How?
  • Look at the examples below or look up pablo picasso portraits on your own to see the variety of ideas.
  • Follow the below steps carefully and sketch out each step using a BLENDING STUMP. This is easier to erase and leaves no lines.
    1. decide what direction your face will look, straight on or to the side. Then draw the face shape.
    2. Decide where you want to place the eyes or eye. Remember his portraits still place the feature close to where they are naturally.
    3. Decide where you want to place the nose and mouth. you might want to draw them at weird angles or from the side instead of straight on, have fun with these.
    4. Draw in some kind of background, look at the examples for ideas. You could also make it something you enjoy. Like a sport court or a music studio or kitchen....
    5. Go back and begin adding the details. be sure to use at least a 2b and 6B pencil. Try DIFFERENT thicknesses of lines to add detail.
    6. Have fun and practice your pencil skills!
Picture
you can see how picasso changed his style over the years. We are trying to reflect the last picture in this assignment, but we will be trying a realistic portrait next. It is important to see the picasso chose to  paint in this style, it wasn't because he lacked the skill to make realistic portraits.
