Ms. Channing- Brown discusses her experience as a black student in a predominately white Christian school, as well as her life as a woman of color in ministry and non-profit. Her perspective and candid voice challenged me to understand the reality of living as a person of color in America. Even in Christian organizations she experienced something well short of the gospel. She showed me that I must do better as a white Christian serving in ministry.

Ms. Cleveland's book was one I read for masters. As I researched how Christian schools could develop diverse, multicultural and inclusive Bible curriculum and stumbled upon her book. She tackles the difficult truth about why most churches are still segregated and how we can do something about it. A powerful look at how the American church got where we are.

This book was my first dip into the idea of racial justice. Ms. Salter-McNeil and Mr. Richerson opened my eyes to the work that needs to be done within our church communities to reconcile the history of racism and exclusion. There were many practical and challenging tangible steps I walked away with after reading.

Mr.Cho asks the challenging and important question "are we more in love with changing the world than actually changing the world?" I confess, before reading this book I didn't take enough "action" to back up my hopes and beliefs. This book is not to be taken lightly, it is challenging and real. You cannot read this and stay the same. Are you really living the gospel or are you in love with the idea of the gospel?
