Goals/Vision Board

Why?
  • As we start a new year (even though it is just another day), it can be helpful to think about where/what/how you hope things will go.
    • This can include physical behaviors, new mindsets, things you hope to accomplish, places you want to go, thoughts you want to hold on to....
  • I believe in intentionality, this is a chance to practice that and have a visual reminder.
  • It's a great way to continue practicing your design skills.
WHEN?
Due Friday Jan. 8th. You will have 15 minutes at the BEGINNING of class to upload your board. Than Everyone will share.
OTE:
Think of tangible things. This is meant to be inspiring not a list of things that induce guilt. Make goals that are within reach while still challenging.
WHAT?
The overall content is COMPLETELY up to you. Add as much or as little as suits you. The overall design should be visually appealing to you. Ideally you'd even print this out and hang it somewhere. Below are some examples but feel free to do some research on your own as well.

    • This can be as simple as shapes or as complex as illustrated faces/portraits
  • Photos
    • If you are using photos from a secondary source, the caption on the photo should include a reference.
    • If you want to take the photos yourself or use photos you have already taken, be sure the quality is high enough for print.
HOW?
Follow the below: READ the step by step instructions and refer back as needed. WATCH AND REVIEW the tutorial provided by Ms. Fiechtner. Consult additional tutorials on In-Design and/or photography. Discuss in class and recieve feedback from classmates.
Read:
The Elements of Design are like the parts of a car: STEERING Wheel, Transmission, tires, gas, engine, seats. Every car requires these things to run. But the way these Elements are arranged or designed will vary depending on the model and make. A Project can have the elements of design: line, shape, Color... but not utilize the PRINCIPLES of design well: Balance, RHYTHM, contrast. In other words, just because the car runs doesn't mean it is AESTHETICALLY pleasing, the same is true in layout design. Placing photos, text and Graphics together is all layout design entails, but HOW you place them is what makes it successful and effective.

Be sure to spend time consulting examples, looking through professional websites, and paging through magazines or design books to find inspiration. Using an existing layout to mimic is a great way to start because it gives you direction and it helps you get ideas down quickly instead of facing a blank page.
